Centre for Materials Research
Aims and objectives:
The aims and objectives of the Centre for Materials Research are;
- To develop a broad UCL Materials strategy, in consultation with Deans and Heads of Department and report this to the Research Strategy Committee.
- To act as a generic first point of contact for external enquires/requests about the UCL Materials community and, if appropriate, coordinate and submit bids to materials research initiatives from the research councils, EU etc.
- To coordinate the materials-based research equipment portfolio of UCL and develop a mechanism to enable as wide an access to the UCL equipment base as possible.
- To coordinate and make a case for major SRIF 4 bids for materials research.
- To consider and help initiate as appropriate, materials-based post-graduate or professional development training programmes or degrees.
- To establish a web-based portal for materials, that would guide external users and internal users into the extensive field of UCL materials research.
- To run regular 'User Forums' and/or an 'e-newsletter' to enable all UCL materials researchers (from PhD students up) to keep in touch with developments and to provide a grass roots input into defining needs and strategy.
- To hold an at least annual day/half-day symposium on current developments in UCL Materials, designed for both internal researchers and external/industrial/research council personnel.
- Interface with Dr Tim Fishlock at UCL Business PLC to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer.
