Roberts Building

The UCL Department of Mechanical Engineering was the first Mechanical Engineering department in England, created in 1847. It has an international reputation for research and teaching with 23 academics, 37 research staff, 75 taught graduates and 260 undergraduates.

Materials research in the areas of Biomaterials, Engineering Materials and Physical Materials is conducted by the Structural Integrity and Materials Research Group, which is subdivided into a number of specialised research groups (see below)
